Brescia edge Savona in thriller; Cassia shines as Pro Recco cruise in Sicily

Round 6 of Serie A1 produced another weekend of high drama and goals across Italy. Brescia emerged victorious in a tense 15–14 clash against Savona, while Pro Recco showed no mercy in Sicily. Elsewhere, Posillipo claimed derby bragging rights in Naples, and Salerno earned a vital away win in Florence.

Savona 14–15 Brescia

The round’s headline fixture between Savona and Brescia lived up to its billing. Savona started stronger, leading 4–2 late in the first period, but Brescia quickly responded to level at 4–4. The hosts briefly went ahead again at 5–4 before Brescia hit back with a 3–0 run to secure a 7–5 halftime lead.

In the third period, Brescia extended the gap to 9–6, only for Savona to rally and equalize at 10–10. Once again, the visitors finished the quarter with a devastating burst—three goals in just 78 seconds—to take a 13–10 advantage. Savona fought bravely in the final eight minutes, narrowing the score to 14–15, but couldn’t find the equalizer.

The match was defined by fouls and penalties: nine in total, with Savona converting three of four and Brescia four of five.
Stefano Guerratto led Brescia with five goals, supported by Vlado Popadić with four. The standout performer, however, was Savona’s 20-year-old Hungarian, Oliver Leinweber, who scored seven times in a losing effort—Savona’s first defeat of the season.

Posillipo 12–9 Canottieri

In the Naples derby, Posillipo took control midway through the second period after a balanced start at 2–2. Three quick goals gave them a 5–2 lead, and although Canottieri closed to within one before the final break at 7–8, Posillipo held their composure to seal a 12–9 win despite missing two penalties in the last quarter.

Radović, Rocchino, and Mattiello netted two each for the winners, while Confuorto scored four for Canottieri.

Telimar 9–21 Pro Recco

Pro Recco were in ruthless form during their trip to Sicily. After racing to a 4–0 lead, the hosts briefly fought back to 4–4 early in the second period, but Recco then unleashed a 14–2 run over the next 15 minutes, building an unassailable 18–6 lead before the final quarter.

Captain Francesco Di Fulvio led by example with four goals, while Francesco Cassia and Matteo Iocchi Gratta both added three in a dominant 21–9 win.

Ortigia 11–13 Olympic Roma

Olympic Roma secured an impressive away win in Syracuse. The visitors led 10–5 early in the fourth, but Ortigia battled back to within one goal at 11–12 before Roma sealed the points with a late strike for 13–11.

De Akker 8–5 Roma Vis Nova

A strong defensive display was the key for De Akker, who held Vis Nova to just five goals to secure a crucial home win.

Florentia 12–13 Salerno

In one of the round’s most exciting finishes, Salerno edged Florentia by a single goal in Firenze. Brazilian Roberto Agulha de Freitas produced a brilliant performance, scoring seven goals. Florentia repeatedly equalized, but Parrilli’s late strike two minutes from time proved decisive.
