Chase Dodd joins BVSC ahead of 2026/27 season

BVSC-Manna ABC have confirmed the signing of American international Chase Dodd ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Olympic bronze medallist arrives on Szonyi ut as one of the key reinforcements for Daniel Varga’s men’s team, as BVSC look to build on a strong 2025/26 campaign and take another step forward in the Hungarian championship.

Dodd, a member of the United States team that won bronze at the Paris Olympic Games, adds international quality and versatility to BVSC’s squad. His arrival comes during a summer of change for the Budapest club, with several players departing and a new structure expected for the coming season.

BVSC have also brought in Maxim Cseh, while Dejan Divjak is expected to strengthen the first team from the club’s reserves. The arrivals follow the departures of Matyas Meszaros, David Tatrai, Miklos Csapo and Nika Shushiashvili.

Meszaros and Tatrai were both home-grown BVSC players and still had active contracts, but the club allowed them to move on in the interest of their development.

The changes come after an important season for BVSC. The men’s team returned to the podium in the Hungarian championship, helping the club achieve a milestone: for the first time since 2003, both BVSC’s men’s and women’s senior teams won medals in the same championship season. The club also celebrated success in the Komjadi Cup, winning the competition for the first time since 2007.

Head coach Daniel Varga said the departures will naturally bring change, but believes the new-look squad can benefit from fresh energy.

“The departure of four players is not a small thing, but I think a lot will change at BVSC,” Varga said. “I think this change can give the team a huge boost. It can give the boost that was missing in the most important part of a very good season last year.”

Varga also welcomed the qualities of the two new arrivals, saying both can add elements that BVSC lacked last season and can be used on both sides of the pool.

BVSC began preparation on July 5, although the squad is not yet complete due to national team commitments at senior and youth level. For now, the early part of pre-season will focus on building the foundations, before attention turns fully to the start of the championship from the beginning of August.

After last season’s progress, BVSC’s ambition is clear: remain among Hungary’s leading teams, give more responsibility to young players, and continue moving forward domestically and internationally.
