Sant Andreu win first Copa Catalunya

Sant Andreu’s women have been crowned Champions of Catalunya for the first time in their history.

Claiming their second piece of silverware this calendar year, following their Copa de la Reina victory last season, Sant Andreu confidently defeated CN Terrassa 12-7.

Elena Ruiz led the scoring for Javier Aznar’s side with four goals, including two from penalties.

Sant Andreu jumped out to a 4-0 lead at the start of the fourth period, putting Terrassa on the back foot. Terrassa managed to score three goals in a minute during the final period, but only to make the scoreline closer than the game actually was.

In the bronze medal match, reigning Spanish champions Mataró defeated European champions Sabadell more comfortably than the 9-8 scoreline suggests.

Mataró’s Kiwi summer signing, Morgan McDowall, impressed when it mattered, scoring three goals.

Mataró led 8-2 heading into the last quarter, and despite a flurry of goals from Sabadell in the final period, Dani Ballart’s side held on to secure the bronze medal.
