Three contenders stay perfect at the top: Round 9 delivers big wins in Spain

Round 9 of the Spanish League reinforced the dominance of the trio leading the standings, as Barceloneta, Sabadell, and Barcelona all claimed emphatic double-digit victories to remain locked together on 24 points.

Title-holder Barceloneta produced the most convincing performance of the weekend, overpowering Caballa 24:5. Biel Gomilla stole the show with a six-goal haul, headlining a match in which the champions controlled every phase of play.

Sabadell, still shaking off its midweek European setback against Waspo Hannover, responded exactly as expected. A commanding 22:12 win over Encinas de Boadilla restored confidence, propelled by standout attacking displays from Federico Panerai and Alberto Barroso, who each netted five. Sabadell now turns its attention to the Euro Cup eighth-finals, joining Barcelona and Terrassa as Spain’s representatives in the knockout phase.

Over at the Nova Escullera, Barcelona kept pace at the top thanks to an 18:8 win against Rubi. Dutch international Mart van den Weijden delivered a five-goal performance, guiding his side through a dominant four-quarter display.

Fresh off an away win at Solaris in the Euro Cup, Terrassa continued its strong run by defeating Sant Andreu 15:12. Ignasi Bargalló was in sensational form, scoring six times to secure another valuable away victory.

The tightest match of the round came in Mataró, where the fourth-placed hosts narrowly edged Tenerife 11:10. Lluc Bertran was decisive with five goals, ensuring Mataró stayed within touching distance of the leading trio.
