Adrian Weinberg joins Panathinaikos

Panathinaikos have officially confirmed the signing of Adrian Weinberg, one of Team USA’s standout performers at the 2024 Paris Olympics. The 23-year-old goalkeeper joins the Athens-based club from NC Chios, further underlining Panathinaikos’ growing ambitions in the Greek A1 Ethniki and beyond.

Weinberg arrives after a breakthrough Olympic campaign in which he was named Best Goalkeeper of the Tournament. He led all shot-stoppers in total saves, delivered clutch performances in two penalty shootouts, and even found the back of the net—helping Team USA secure a historic bronze medal over Hungary.

A Champion’s Pedigree

Weinberg’s rise began at the University of California, Berkeley. Originally set to redshirt his freshman year, he quickly claimed the starting position and never looked back. During his collegiate career, he won three consecutive NCAA championships and earned multiple All-American honours. In his final season at Cal, he racked up over 200 saves, cementing his reputation as one of the best young goalkeepers in the world.

Reunion in Athens

The move to Panathinaikos reunites Weinberg with his former Cal teammate, Nikolaos Papanikolaou. The pair shared several successful seasons in Berkeley, and their chemistry could be a vital asset for the Greek club.

Building a Contender

Weinberg is the latest in a string of high-profile signings by Panathinaikos. The club recently added Greek international defender Dimitrios Skoumpakis from Novi Beograd on a 2+1 year deal. Meanwhile, talks are reportedly ongoing with Konstantinos Gkiouvetsis, another top talent from Chios.

These moves are part of a clear strategy to position Panathinaikos as serious contenders both domestically and in European competition. With Olympiacos and Vouliagmeni dominating in recent years, the Greens are making a bold push to close the gap.

Looking Ahead

The addition of Weinberg brings elite international experience, world-class reflexes, and leadership between the posts. For Panathinaikos, it’s not just a major coup—it’s a signal of intent. With the U.S. star now officially in green, the club’s trajectory is clear: they’re building to win.

Further announcements may follow in the coming weeks, but one thing is certain—Panathinaikos have secured one of the most exciting goalkeepers in the world.
