All to play for ahead of Day 4 – Women’s Champions League

The penultimate day of the Women’s Champions League qualifiers saw sizeable wins for some favourites, but much remains to be settled in terms of qualification ahead of the final day of action tomorrow.

Vouliagmeni emerged as the most impressive of the qualifiers so far, finishing with four wins from four in Berlin, including an impressive 15-12 victory over GZC Donk today.

Unbeaten teams in Groups A, C, and D will meet tomorrow to determine the top spot: FTC face Sant Andreu (Group A), Plebiscito take on Alimos (Group C), and Terrassa match up against Roma (Group D).

Group A (Athens)

In Athens, Spain’s Sant Andreu delivered two dominant performances. After defeating hosts Panionios on Friday, they powered through matches against De Zaan (12-17) and Rapallo (15-10), securing their place in the main round. The Spanish team will now face FTC Telekom in a Sunday showdown to determine the group winner.

FTC, led by captain Greta Kurucz-Gurisatti and Greek star Eleftheria Plevritou, clinched their spot in the main competition with a narrow 11-12 victory over Rapallo. They’ll be aiming for first place when they meet Sant Andreu. Meanwhile, Rapallo and Panionios will battle it out for pride, with the loser finishing bottom of the group.

Group B delivered some of the day’s most thrilling matches, starting with Lille picking up their first points with a comfortable 19-11 victory over Grand Nancy. Later, BVSC won a tense all-Hungarian encounter against Dunaujvaros 11-10. In the day’s final game, Polar Bears came from behind to beat BVSC 21-12, with a standout performance from Storm Willemsen, who scored six goals.

Sunday’s matches will decide the final standings, but it’s likely that BVSC, Dunaujvaros, and Polar Bears will all progress to the main round.

Group C (Padova)

Both Alimos and Padova secured qualification after extending their perfect records. The Greek side played twice, beating Hapoel Yoqneam (18-9) and Tenerife (9-20). Meanwhile, Padova won 13-7 against a resilient Ethnikos.

Sunday’s game between Alimos and Padova will determine the group winner.

Group D (Eger)

In Eger, SIS Roma continued their strong form, beating III. Kerulet 18-10, while Terrassa secured two victories, including a 15-9 win over Trieste. Both Roma and Terrassa will finish in the top two, with Sunday’s clash between them set to determine the group winner.

Vouliagmeni clinched top spot in Group E with a flawless four wins from four, including a 12-15 victory over Donk. They also defeated hosts Spandau 18-7. Donk is in a strong position to take second place after their 19-11 win over Glyfada.
