Carlo Silipo has named his 15-player roster for the Women’s World Championships in Singapore, with a youthful and refreshed Setterosa squad heading into the tournament via a training camp in Perth.
Italy will prepare with joint training alongside the United States and Australia until 8 July, including two official friendlies — against the USA (4 July) and Australia (6 July). The team will then fly to Singapore ahead of their opening fixture against New Zealand on 11 July.
This Italian side is markedly different from previous years, with only five players having Olympic experience. Several athletes will make their debuts at this level, reflecting a generational shift under Silipo’s leadership. Despite the transition, the group is described by the head coach as “united, motivated, and ready to compete.”
Italy’s most significant test will come on 13 July against Australia, who narrowly beat the Azzurre in Chengdu in the 5th-place playoff earlier this year. That match could determine who finishes top of Group A and secures a direct route to the quarter-finals — avoiding a potential crossover against the United States, Netherlands or China.
Setterosa has a rich history at the World Championships, having won gold in 1998 (Perth) and 2001 (Fukuoka). While they may not arrive in Singapore as title favourites, this new-look side will be aiming to channel that winning legacy on the sport’s biggest stage.
