Montenegro begins World Championship preparations with 23-Man roster

The Montenegrin men’s national water polo team has officially begun preparations for the upcoming World Aquatics Championships, set to take place in Singapore from July 11 to 24.

Head coach Dejan Savić has named a preliminary squad of 23 players vying for selection to the final roster for the tournament. The group will train together ahead of the competition, which features a high-stakes group stage and a knockout format.

The training roster includes:
Goalkeepers & Defenders: Petar Tešanović, Darko Đurović, Lazar Andrić
Field Players: Vladan Spaić, Miroslav Perković, Dušan Banićević, Savo Ćetković, Aljoša Mačić, Dimitrije Obradović, Matija Sladović, Jovan Vujović, Marko Mršić, Vasilije Radović, Strahinja Gojković, Danilo Radović, Dušan Matković, Nikola Moskov, Filip Gardašević, Đuro Radović, Petar Vujošević, Balša Vučković, Vuk Drašković, Dmitri Kholod

Kholod, a former Russian International, has been invited to the training camp following the initiation of the process to grant him Montenegrin sporting citizenship. The decision was made upon the recommendation of the coaching staff and the VPSCG’s Expert Council.

Savić will be assisted by Nenad Vukanić, Edvard Bonello, Vasko Vučković, and team manager Mlađan Janović.

The squad will train in Herceg Novi until June 9 before continuing preparations abroad. A detailed training and friendly match schedule is expected to be announced on Friday.

At the World Championships, Montenegro has been drawn into Group D alongside Greece, Croatia, and China. The group winners will advance directly to the quarter-finals, while the second- and third-placed teams will enter a playoff round to compete for a place in the top eight.

With a tough group ahead, Montenegro’s build-up will be crucial as the team aims to peak in Singapore and make a deep run in the tournament.
