Tenerife stuns Rubi with sensational late comeback

Round 21 of the Spanish League delivered drama in Catalonia as Tenerife pulled off a stunning comeback to defeat Rubi 11–9 — overturning a seven-goal deficit in the final 11 minutes.

Rubi looked in total control, leading 8–1 late in the second quarter and still holding a 9–4 advantage midway through the third. But Tenerife weren’t done. The Canary Islanders launched an incredible surge, scoring seven unanswered goals — including a 5–0 final quarter — to steal all three points.

Luis Araya led the charge with four goals, while Rubi’s Sergi Pina Vega scored five in a losing effort.

Elsewhere, Terrassa confirmed their playoff semifinal place with a solid 13–7 win over Real Canoe, powered by four goals from Gerard Cuacos Pena.

Catalunya also impressed, jumping to seventh in the standings after a strong 14–11 win over Mediterrani. Catalunya stormed to a 6–0 lead and never looked back, despite Mediterrani’s second-half resistance.

Mataro cruised past Sant Andreu with an 11–4 victory.

Earlier in the month, the league’s top two, Barceloneta and Sabadell, had already wrapped up wins. Barceloneta beat Barcelona 14–8, while Sabadell dismantled Caballa 16–3.
