Reigning champions Spain men’s national water polo team will head to the 2026 European Championships in Belgrade with a roster that largely reflects expectations, as head coach David Martín opts for continuity following last year’s world title.
There are just two changes compared to the squad that captured world gold in Singapore. Legendary captain Felipe Perrone, who announced his retirement from international water polo, is no longer part of the setup, while José Javier Bustos also misses out this time.
Stepping into the group are Óscar Asensio and Pol Daura, both rewarded for strong club form and now given the opportunity to feature on the European stage.
Spain arrive in Belgrade as one of the tournament favourites and have been drawn into a demanding Group A alongside Serbia, the Netherlands, and Israel.
