After announcing the signing of American left-hander Malia Allen earlier this summer, the Italian club has now confirmed the signing of Morgan McDowall and Aurelie Battu ahead of the 2025/26 season. Both players arrive in Trieste after one season with Mataró, adding to the club’s impressive recruitment for the upcoming season.
New Zealand star Morgan McDowall joins Trieste with experience from Mataró, Lille, and the University of Hawaii. One of Mataró’s key offensive players last season, the 23-year-old is expected to bring firepower to Trieste’s attack. As a member of New Zealand’s national team, the “White Caps,” McDowall will compete at the World Championships in Singapore, beginning July 11th, before joining her new club.
Paris Olympian Aurelie Battu also leaves Mataró after one season in Spain’s top division. The French centre forward will add physicality and international experience to the Italian side. Battu has played a key role in France’s recent European and World Championship campaigns and was instrumental in their Olympic debut last year, where she played a huge part in their historic 9-8 victory over Italy.
After winning silver in the Euro Cup but missing out on the podium in Italy’s Serie A1 in the 2024/25 season, Trieste has strengthened its squad with three international signings, aiming for an ambitious 2025/26 season.
