Dejan Stanojevic leaves Dinamo Tbilisi

Dejan Stanojević has left Dinamo Tbilisi after four seasons with the Georgian club.

Since 2020, the 53-year-old Stanojević has played a pivotal role in transforming both the Georgian national team and Dinamo Tbilisi into strong contenders on the European stage.

It was always agreed that Stanojević’s contract with Dinamo Tbilisi and the Georgian national team would expire in the summer of 2024.

A Serbian water polo veteran, Stanojević brought a wealth of experience to the team, having previously served as head coach of Vojvodina, an assistant coach with Serbia’s national team, and head coach of Romania and Kazakhstan.

Under his guidance, Dinamo Tbilisi not only dominated the Georgian league but also became a consistent presence in the Champions League. His tenure saw the team secure several notable victories, including wins over Olympiacos and Jadran Split in 2021, and grow into a respected opponent against some of Europe’s top clubs.

However, as the team prepares for the start of the 2024/2025 Champions League season, they will be doing so without their Serbian mastermind. Dinamo Tbilisi’s campaign kicks off on October 8th with a challenging away match against Hungarian powerhouse Ferencváros in Group B. This group also features Croatia’s Jadran Split and Serbia’s Radnički, making it one of the most competitive in the tournament.
