Martín Famera is expected to complete a move to Sabadell this summer, ahead of the 2025–2026 season, bringing an end to his successful tenure at Barceloneta.
The transfer, though not yet officially confirmed, is understood to be close to completion and would mark a significant addition for the Catalan club.
Famera, born in 1988 in Vimperk (then Czechoslovakia), is one of the most experienced and decorated players in Spanish water polo. After starting his career with FEZKO Strakonice, he went on to play for clubs including Olympic Nice, Wasserfreunde Spandau 04, and most recently Barceloneta, where he has been a key contributor in both domestic and European competitions.
His international career is as unique as it is impressive. Famera first represented the Czech Republic, then Slovakia, before switching allegiance to Spain in 2020. Since then, he has become a regular feature in the Spanish national team setup, contributing to Spain’s gold medal at the 2022 World Championships in Budapest, as well as bronze medals at the 2023 and 2024 editions in Fukuoka and Doha respectively. He also helped Spain to a bronze medal at the 2022 European Championships in Split.
Other summer signings for Sabadell include Sergi Cabanas (returning from Jug Dubrovnik and Rafa Real Vergara who signs from UCLA.
