Savona dominate Trieste in Euro Cup derby; Recco and Brescia stay perfect – Italian League Round 8

An all–Euro Cup clash headlined Round 8 of the Italian League, with Savona asserting their quality in a decisive 19:10 home victory over Trieste on Sunday morning.

Both teams entered the match after dramatic midweek Euro Cup wins—Savona edging Steaua 11:10 in Bucharest, and Trieste narrowly beating Dinamo 17:16 at home. But today’s encounter was far more one-sided.

Savona burst out to a 3:0 lead in the opening minutes, forcing Trieste immediately onto the back foot. Although the visitors closed the gap to 4:3 by the end of the first quarter, Savona re-established control early in the second period and never looked back. A 9:5 halftime lead grew into a commanding victory thanks to a dominant 6:1 third quarter.

Trieste’s missed opportunities proved costly—they earned three penalty shots in the third period but converted only one, with Marco Del Lungo stopping one from the 5-metre line. Savona’s attack was led by Oliver Leinweber with five goals, supported by hat-tricks from Occhione and Bruni. Petronio and Manzi each scored three for Trieste.

Recco and Brescia remain flawless

Pro Recco and Brescia extended their perfect league records with convincing away wins.

Recco recovered from a slow start in Florence—trailing 3:4 after the first period—and then overwhelmed Florentia to secure a 21:12 victory. Francesco Di Fulvio starred with five goals.

Brescia eased past Roma Vis Nova, winning 22:10, thanks to a five-goal display from Filippo Ferrero.

Two shootouts: Posillipo and Olympic Roma take dramatic victories

Posillipo claimed two points in Palermo after a dramatic finish against Telimar. The hosts led 10:9 entering the final minute, but Vincenzo Renzuto Iodice equalised with 51 seconds remaining to force penalties. Posillipo prevailed 14:13 in the shootout.

Olympic Roma and De Akker played one of the most thrilling matches of the season. De Akker led 15:13 late on, but Roma struck twice in the final minutes, with Luka Stahor scoring a buzzer-beater for 15:15 with four seconds left. After eight rounds of penalties, Olympic Roma triumphed 22:21.

Other Matches

Quinto defeated Canottieri with a strong second half, winning 11:6.
Salerno earned a valuable 13:11 away victory over Ortigia.
